FAAN's Be a PAL: Protect A Life From Food Allergies™ is an educational awareness program designed to help parents and educators teach students what food allergies are and how to help their friends who have food allergies.

What is the Be a PAL Walk Program?
The Be a PAL Walk program is available to schools, churches, communities, and civic groups who wish to organize a Walk event to raise funds to benefit FAAN.

Why should you host a Be a PAL Walk in your area?
By hosting a Be a PAL Walk in your area, you will be raising awareness and educating your community about food allergies. As many as 15 million Americans have a food allergy, and the funds raised through the Walk will help FAAN continue its mission to raise public awareness, to provide advocacy and education, and to advance research on behalf of all those affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis.

How do you get started?
The event may be held in a park, school, or even a neighborhood. While many Be a PAL Walks are planned during Food Allergy Awareness Week, which is the second full week in May, a Be a PAL Walk can take place any time of year. Routes should be 1 to 4 miles in length.

Here are 4 steps to get a Be a PAL Walk started in your area:

  1. Get permission from your church, school, or civic group to plan the event using a venue that they provide.
  2. Complete a Participation Form.
  3. Fax or e-mail the completed Participation Form to FAAN at the fax number indicated on the form.
  4. Please contact FAAN if you would like assistance planning the event.

What FAAN provides:

  • Guidance to help the event get started
  • A flyer template to promote your Be a PAL Walk
  • A news release template
  • Downloadable collection form to submit donations
  • Downloadable certificates for participating walkers
  • Be a PAL logo to create t-shirts for the event (with FAAN's approval of messaging and layout of the shirt)

What you are responsible for:

  • Securing the venue for the Be a PAL Walk
  • Promoting the Be a PAL Walk
  • Encouraging community involvement
  • Sending pictures and donations to FAAN after your Be a PAL Walk
  • All expenses (FAAN will not provide a budget)
